Singapore: First Staycation with a Baby

We had been going back and forth between a short trip to Bali, elsewhere or a staycation. The thought of all that mental preparation for just a short overseas trip made us consider extending it to make it more worthwhile — but that meant more planning, more logistics, more of exactly what we were trying to step away from. A circular thought process that eventually resolved itself simply: we stayed.

We went in with the mindset of treating it as a welcomed break from routine. Protected, unhurried time away from emails and other commitments. No agenda beyond being present.

🍼
Feeding & Changing

Straightforward and comfortable for a one-night stay. Diaper changes on the bed, milk prep near the kettle, bottles washed at the bathroom sink. Nothing remarkable — which, for a single night, is exactly what you need.

🛏️
Sleeping & Space

No cot requested. We co-slept, which by now is simply our default on the road. The room was comfortable enough, and the familiarity of the arrangement made for an easy night.

🛁
Bathing & Cleaning

Had a quick shower for our little one in the bathtub after a short splash around in the hotel pool before checking out. Bottles washed at the single bathroom sink. Simple, sufficient, done.

Beyond The Room

The real draw of this stay was the location — Orchard Road on the doorstep, and a cluster of museums and galleries within easy reach. Weekday timing meant fewer crowds at the places we'd usually rush past on weekends.

In the Neighbourhood

Part of the ACM & Me experience was a small tunnel — a baby-sized opening in the wall. Our little one found it within minutes. What followed was a solid stretch of crawling through, poking his head out, locking eyes with daddy on the other side, and dissolving into laughter. Peek-a-boo, on his terms, in a hole in the wall. Sometimes the best part of a trip costs nothing.

National Gallery Spacious, stroller-friendly, and worth the visit for the architecture alone.

Good To Know

There is no lift from the carpark to the lobby so you will need to carry everything, stroller included, up a flight of stairs. Worth knowing before you arrive loaded with an overnight bag and a baby.

Shophouses Killiney Kopitiam for a simple, unhurried start to the day with kaya toast and soft-boiled eggs. There was no baby chair but the staff kindly made space for settling our little one in his pram. A short wander along Emerald Hill afterwards also makes for a natural contrast to the busier side of Orchard Road.

The Malls 313 Somerset and Orchard Gateway have everything you need for an easy afternoon from food options, snacks, and the kind of air-conditioned, stroller-friendly environment that makes an outing with a baby genuinely manageable.

Core Memory

Ancient Civilisations Museum The museum has a fairly new children's activity space, ACM & Me, inspired by the special exhibition running at the time. Thoughtfully designed, genuinely engaging even for a little one still working out the world around him.

Final Thoughts

It turned out to be exactly what we needed. A change of scenery, time away from the daily rhythm of meetings and emails, and the quiet pleasure of visiting familiar places through a different lens. Not rushing through on errands, but choosing where to go and taking our time when we got there.

We saw the same Singapore we've always known — and somehow it looked different.

It was a trip we looked forward to, and one we'll look back on.
